What is eye vision correction surgery? |
| |
Vision Correction Surgery is needed to remove the eye refractive errors in order to get a better, clear and focused vision. Eye refractive errors such as Myopia, or nearsightedness, Hyperopia, or farsightedness, Presbyopia and Astigmatism can be treated using vision correction surgery. Lasik eye surgery is one of the widely accepted laser vision correction procedure. Lasik produce effective and stable results within few days after the surgery.

What are refractive errors? |
| |
| The need for glasses for seeing clearly is an indicator of refractive error. Common refractive errors include myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia and astigmatism. The use of eyeglasses or contact lenses enables most people to help overcome these conditions. |

What is myopia (nearsightedness)? |
| |
| In this condition, you can clearly see close objects, but distant objects are blurry. It occurs when the eyeball is too long. Myopia is found in varying degrees, between minimal to extreme. The more myopic you are, the closer the object would have to be for you to clearly see it. |

What is hyperopia (farsightedness)? |
| |
If the eyeball is too short for the light rays to focus clearly on the retina, a person is said to be suffering from hyperopia. In this condition, there is no trouble seeing things at a distance but close objects appear hazy.

| If the surface of the eye (cornea) is oval rather than perfectly round, it doesn't allow the eye to focus clearly, thus causing distortion of image in this condition. Astigmatism rarely occurs alone. It is usually accompanied by myopia or hyperopia. |

| Most people between 40 and 50 years of age realize for the first time that they can't read objects close to them, while at the same time, the ability to focus on objects that are far way remains normal. This condition is called presbyopia, which is a normal occurrence as you age. |

The humble pair of spectacles served us well for centuries. Then, they made way for contact lenses for vision correction. Contact lenses too have evolved today and are available in an astonishing range of materials and types.
The biggest breakthrough in refractive eye vision correction came with the advent of Excimer Lasers for permanent removal of spectacles. With time, it was discovered that Laser based refractive surgery has some limitations in terms of the refractive error one can correct due to varying factors such as the thickness of the patient's cornea and the refractive error per se to deal with refractive errors. This prompted the introduction of Phakic Intraocular Lenses. These lenses are implanted within the eye. In layman's terms, it is like a very high-quality, high-precision contact lens that is implanted inside the eye. ICL is the most popular variant.
